Today was a fantastic first day of school! I so enjoyed meeting each one of you, and learning more about you. I hope you had fun learning about our classroom and how it will work this year!

Let's all remember that we are "reaching new heights" together here in 5th grade!

This is the first newsletter you recieved in the mail - I'm putting it here for reference!

Dear Parents,

I hope this letter finds you and your family having a wonderful summer.  I am looking forward to meeting your child. We have a great class! With school starting in a few weeks, you might be thinking about what your child might need in the way of school supplies.  To avoid buying things that are not necessary, please only buy what I have listed on the enclosed supply list. I would appreciate it if your child could have these supplies on the first day of school. Your child should carry a backpack or a book bag, which can be hung up in their lockers. I am also including our list of specials, so your child will bring or wear sneakers on the correct days, and have a smock, ready for Art, to be kept in their locker.

Each day your child will have a morning snack time. Please give your child a nutritious snack for this time – NO foods high in refined sugar, please! I am requesting this because some children react to sugar in a way that interferes with their ability to pay attention and learn. Please save the sweet snacks for after school. Also, please don’t send any snack that lists peanuts, peanut oil, or peanut butter as an ingredient. Children will not be allowed to eat them in class. Under NO circumstances will children be permitted to share snacks, so please be diligent about sending your child to school with a snack each day. Fifth grade will be eating lunch at 12:55 P.M., so they will surely need some nutrition between breakfast and lunch!

Enjoy the rest of the summer. Please let your child know that I am very excited to be teaching them this year, and that I look forward to meeting them. I know it is going to be a great year! Thanks for your cooperation and continued support.

Fondly,
Mrs. Jessica Hine
